I have listened to most of them, from Bach to Beethoven, B. I was only ten or so when I first heard it! That song has a life of its own as it were! But then you had no idea that it would come to this, did you? The accolade from a former Sorbonne student is heart warming! But then we expect that and more! What a great public service you have provided us with this interview!

For over 30 years his art has transported us safely back and forth enabling us to look at what is going on and who we are as people at different points in time. And here he is still going strong. Many have shared with us their beautiful endless dreams but only Teshome has interpreted our dreams for us and described our day to day reality in his songs.

All his songs, and in particular his love songs have the bittersweet taste of Ethiopian love and Ethiopian life in modern times, in troubled times… and in sidet …I love Teshome Mitiku and hope Tadias keeps focused on this poetic and musical genius because we need to give him this well deserved and overdue recognition for an outstanding, almost spiritual Ethiopian talent.

So you guys also lived together? Were you making enough money to support yourself? Do you still keep in touch with some of the band members? When did you start playing music? It seems that the 60s and the 70s were the prodigious decades in the history of Ethiopian music. Now, after 40 years he is still one of my favorite singers. Thank you Teshome for your great music, I enjoyed the nostalgia.

Great stuff. I also love Gara sir. The beauty about that song is that everyone has their own individual interpretation about it. My uncle used to say that it was about sex and it is a very sexual song. When I wrote it the title was kebena new betish, that was the idea. And the house where I was born in and grew up in Ethiopia was just right under the hill gara and Kebena river is right under the bridge very close to the water.

Teshome is irreplaceable and will always to be a treaure to Ethiopia.

There is an Ethiopian literary tradition called Qinea genre of Amharic poetry full of secret meanings. Tesh is obviously a well-versed person not only in the Amharic language but also in the cultural sounds of BatiAmbaseletc, as he learned it as a child through listening to his mother. That is the case with many great poets and writers.

What makes this song special is that Gara Sir evokes a common memory of love, longing and country with a meaning that is personal to each person. The listener must pay close attention.
