It means, on that particular day, he sang some three dozen songs. After the stress and fatigue, he fell sick. But, that also meant concerts were arranged for them in the evening. Then, the wave of concerts started and Kandara even performed abroad for the first time in West Bengal of India. Bibek Shrestha was very young when he first tasted fame, but his interest in music was there from the beginning.

He was born in Pokhara and grew up in Waling of Syangja. When he used to board the public bus, he would always check if the buses would play music or not, always look for a tape recorder in the bus and would only travel in the bus that would play songs. When any music album got released, no one dwelled deeply on marketing the album like today.

For that time, public transport was the only reliable means to spread the songs everywhere. Most of the songs of that time that got viral were heard and liked by people using public buses. It also meant that it was a time people had to imagine what a singer would be like just by listening to their voice. There was no social media, no YouTube, no television; only audio cassettes were heard everywhere.

People would wonder: who is the singer? What are the musicians like? Who played the instrument? Bibek Shrestha was the main vocalist of the band, but many people would love the song but not know that he sang the songs. On top of that, on the first cassette cover, he was standing on the sides whereas Sunil Thapa was in the middle, well-dressed.

So, many people thought that Thapa was the singer instead. So, Kandara also indulged in it. They were called to Kathmandu for filming. Even after the music video was ready, they had to wait till it was broadcast on television. People who loved the music bought the cassettes and would play it on loop.

Meanwhile, their names and photos started being printed in newspapers including the most popular weekly tabloid, Saptahikwhich was a complete package of entertainment, published every Friday. Another attraction of the publication was the weekly list of the 10 most popular songs. Next week, the song climbed the charts to the eighth position. Celebrating its year musical journey, Kandara has declared — as its anniversary celebration years, with the slogan "First home, and abroad.

With a legacy of 32 years in Nepali folk-pop music, Kandara continues to bring a fusion of pop and modern music to Nepali youth while preserving and perpetuating the nation's musical heritage. Remenber me. Login Not have account yet? In 32 years of journey, we never made a song for money. Rather than listening to our songs to the new generation we shared our experience with them. We should know our responsibilities. We should not do whatever we want. Kandara has always remained focused towards its composition, lyrics and arrangements. We have our style of music and we have remained dedicated to maintaining consistency.

Kandara has been creating music with the aim of promoting tourism. How do music and tourism complement each other? We have always been creating music of love. In yesteryears, when the country was going through a civil war we created a Ke Pahad, Ke Terai to make the people aware that everyone is equal regardless of geographical differences.

Today as well we have been hearing about war and we will make a song about it too. Nepal has a great tourism potential. Currently, there is war around the world and an economic crisis is going on. In such a situation we should promote internal tourism. There are only a few places where we can see internal tourism but we want to expand it.

We should travel all across the country. There are a lot of places to travel. Each place has its specialities. We want to spread this message to everyone and have started the campaign for it. Whether the government will support it or not, we will run this campaign at least for a year. We procrastinated the shows in Kathmandu because it was a nearby destination and also due to various reasons we could not perform in Kathmandu for such a long time.

Most of the band members are based in Pokhara. We named the event Kathmandu Calling Kathmandu because literally, Kathmandu called us for the show.
