Sultan quli qutub shah and bhagmati
Historians from Hyderabad have also never been on the same page about Bhagmati. The late Haroon Khan Sherwani, who is considered to be an authority of Deccan history, had always refuted the existence of the woman in his works. In the book History of the Medieval Deccanedited by him and P. He points to 17th-century travellers, like the Frenchman Jean Baptiste Tavernier, who used both words Hyderabad and Bhagnagar.
Bhagmati, he says is just a legend and never existed. He on the other hand simply says that the city was renamed to Hyderabad seven years after the death of Bhagmati. Another thing many point out is that other courtesans like Taramati have their graves and other evidence of their existence. So if Bhagmati was in fact real and important for Hyderabad, ideally some marker of her life should have been found.
A few claims of her grave were made in the past but were not true. She was his courtesan, who is buried in the Qutb Shahi Tombs, the necropolis where the Golconda kings are buried. Moreover, unlike Bhagmati, another marker of Taramati is the Taramati Baramati built for her as a stage. However, it may be pertinent to note that there are contemporary Mughal sources in history which mention Bhagmati.
Unfortunately, for all of what it is worth, what we will always be left with is the legend and debates. Hopefully the legend does not die, its a beautiful one! Like Like. Connor there are two versions about how she died there might be more, in one version she poisoned herself because she could not bear to live alone after the death of Baji Rao.
As to how they got to be husband and wife i have heard three versions, there might actually be more. In one she is the daughter of Chhatrasal from his persian wife who marries her to Bajirao out of gratitude because Bajirao helped chhatrasal in his battle with Mohammad Khan Bangash. In another version She was a dancer in the court of the Nizam and that chhatrasal fell in love with her during a meeting with the nizam after the nizam had conceded defeat to a chhatrasal, chhatrasal later married Mastani.
In another version she is presented as the daughter of the Nizam who is given in marriage to Bajirao after the Nizam is defeated by Bajirao. There are many such stories but the point you are trying to make through such rhetorical questions escapes me completely. The history is this, Mughal General Muhammad Khan Bangash attacked Bundelkhant inin those times almost all Hindus looked upon Maratha for their aide before anyone raise the any question do refer to Maratha-Portugese warso obviously Chatrasal appealed to Peshwa Persian word for Prime Ministerhe attacked Mughal armies before they can reach Bundelkhand and capture Muhammad khan and his son qasim alive, in return Chatrasal offered her daughter Mastani from a persian mistress.
Regarding whether she commited SATI or not is not certain.

Regarding Bhagyalaxmi templeas a Practising North Indian Hindu i never heard of anyone by that name. Though at times i support people like Ashok Singhal and Togadia in some geniune concerns but not in this case. Apart from history love……as the topic is related to Hyderabad-Deccan… i wanna say this… it was the place of communal harmony until …until from the beginning of the history of hyderabad there wasnt any communal riots infact in whole deccan history…….
Reblogged this on Namakparay. This form of worship is common in Maharashtra, Andhra and Karnataka. This article is overall very illuminating. I agree with most of your conclusions that the Hindutva groups are just playing politics over a heritage structure. I wonder how most left of center forums end up discovering castes and classes even when none exist.
The film depicted love as essence of our existence beyond the barriers of caste creed and religion… four hundred years back this relationship laid foundations for our peaceful coexistence and beauty of process of life … Film has exceptional thought and way beyond the trivial films made in present day film makers. The time in-terms of past ,present and future has been handled well.
Did Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah approve of their love instantly? How far is it true? Sandy The Mughals and the Adil Shahi Qutub Shahi kings were mostly at logger heads with each other so I see little possibility of Quli Shah turning to Akbar and requesting him to intervene in this familial dispute. We are talking of the 16th century and in the absence of roads and a couple of mountain ranges and several roads to cross this would not be a practical solution.
