I can't believe the band I started Zeb and Haniya with my cousin Haniya broke up, but somehow with my long-lost musical klezmer cousins here in Brooklyn, we are still together and is intact. We celebrate 10 years next year and I have traveled all over the US and Canada with this band; at this point, we are more like family. It's been unreal to perform songs from marginalized traditions in my home, such as Baluchi, Persian, Pashto and Urdu.

I think most of the performers in Pakistan are very, very talented, but I would definitely like people to give a listen to people more folksy stuff to feel the real pulse of the country: Paimona: because it's a song that really helped me connect and reach out to the often silenced part of Afghan - that have spent generations in Pakistan. They always had refugee status in their minds.
